(Dawson Creek BC) Local favorites Deere John will be joining Lonestar and Canadian singer Victoria Banks at the EnCana Events Centre for a triple bill on October 2, 2009. Tickets on sale now for what will be a crowd pleasing country show.
DEERE JOHN’s Craig Brooks, Randy Gee, Ken Kirshner, and James Webster had individually worked at their song writing skills for decades in separate projects that saw their travels take them Across Canada and literally across the globe playing with musical icons from Bryan Adams to Jethro Tull and releasing both independent and international record company releases in Canada, Europe, and Japan. But it was when they turned their collective attention to Country Music that something synergistic occurred. During Their live performances it became apparent that their original music was thrilling their fans, and it was time to try and capture the energy and excitement of their live show on to disc.
Taking influences like The Eagles, Steve Earle, and Lyle Lovette, the band literally moved into a Log Cabin on guitar player, Randy Gee’s farm and began the collaborative process of writing a great country album. With four singer /song writers in the group, the songs grew with surprising speed and quality. There is a distinct “No Boundaries” attitude towards country music in this release, and the members of DEERE JOHN realized that to effectively showcase their diverse styles of music, a truly talented producer was essential. And as fate would have it that person came to them once again at a chance meeting on the road touring with country recording artist and 2006 CCMA’s producer of the year, Gil Grand. Gil brought a time honed industry savvy to the music that took the raw energy and excitement of the DEERE JOHN sound to an international level. His attention to detail and his ear for radio friendly lyrics and melody clearly shines through on this generous, sixteen track, offering. With the help of a state of the art studio in Nashville and the engineering talents of Bill Warner (Lonestar, Garth Brooks, Dolly Parton, Rickie Skaggs) DEERE JOHN has spent a lion’s share of 2008-2009 on the Canadian Country Music top 100 with their three singles Another Day, She Likes Me But She Loves My Money, and Come My Way. They are now preparing to release their fourth single, If I Were You And You Were Me this spring, and have penned dozens of new songs in preparation for their return to Nashville to record their sophomore CD in the fall of 2009. The wheels on this tractor are moving faster every day.
Another Canadian joins the stage at the EnCana Events Centre VICTORA BANKS – Victoria’s performances at the 2008 CCMAs in Winnipeg generated a huge buzz, inspiring praise from the toughest critics in the business and establishing her as one of the top new Canadian female artists to watch. She was labeled a “new sensation”, “Canada’s secret weapon”, and an “overnight success”. But tell that to Victoria, and she throws back her head and laughs. “Wow, ‘overnight success’? I feel more like a survivor!”
Victoria’s much anticipated debut CD (scheduled for release on On Ramp Records in early 2009) is sure to be everything that the CCMA buzz predicted it would be – a masterpiece of songwriting from an exceptionally talented voice which will secure Victoria’s place as one of the most respected artists in the Canadian music industry.
