As the completion of the Enerplex nears, Fort St. John’s Mayor has addressed some of the community’s concerns.

On Monday’s Issues and Answers, Mayor Lantz says the Enerplex has the capacity to accommodate up to 4500 seats. However, he says 500 seats will be initially put in.

Meanwhile, the first call for sponsorships ended with little interest from companies. Lantz says there has been interest recently in the smaller levels of sponsorships which are still in negotiation. He says there has also been some informal interest in the naming rights for the whole facility.

He says the tough economic times are undoubtedly playing a role in lack of sponsorships.

As far as the Kids Arena goes, he says the Junior Sports Committee is handing over control of the facility back to the City in August.

Lantz says a structural assessment will be conducted to identify the repairs needed to bring the building up to code. Lantz says there has been a lot of interest in the community.

Sometime next year, he says the City will be reviewing proposals that seem to be in the community’s best interest.

He says he predicts the Kids Arena will still prove to be a real asset to the community.
