Canfor takes a hard line in contract talks
Canfor is taking a hard line as it negotiates a new contract with the United Steelworkers Union.
The Prince George Citizen says Canfor is demanding 50 million dollars in labour reductions and also wants a six-year contract covering all its operations.
That would be a departure from the company’s current contracts, which vary from mill to mill.
The newspaper has obtained a copy of Canfor’s latest proposal, to its Prince George workers, which contains a plan to link the changes to a profit-based cash incentive plan.
Canfor isn’t commenting on the details and the union says it’s seeking wage increases and a shorter contract when the latest deal expires at the end of the month, next Tuesday.
