One person dead in a plane crash near Chetwynd

Chetwynd RCMP are reporting one person has died in a small-plane crash on Friday afternoon.

An RCMP release says the single-engine plane went down in a bush area approximately 30 km’s south of Chetwynd, at around 2:15pm.

"The initial unconfirmed reports are that the plane had two occupants; one who has succumbed to the injuries sustained in the crash, and a second who suffered unknown injuries" the release says.

It is unknown if the deceased person is the pilot or the passenger.

Specifics on whether the aircraft was coming into Chetwynd or was leaving the area, at the time of the crash, have not yet been obtained. Further details will be obtained as the investigation evolves.
