Ministry of Transportation staff from the Northeast region also made a presentation last night to City Council.

At the time, Staff and Council raised a number of concerns with roads in the region, including the Alaska Highway between Dawson Creek and Fort St. John. City Manager Diane Hunter said local residents are concerned with the condition of the road, and asked what upgrades are planed in the future.

Spokesperson Derek Drummond said the ministry of Transportation is concerned about the road, and has completed a number of corridor studies. [asset|aid=1147|format=mp3player|formatter=asset_bonus|title=7c416769bada3d2a04a45e5fc48adbc9-Derek – 1_1_Pub.mp3]

The Ministry hopes to start consultation with road users this year.

Staff from the Ministry did not mention the idea of twinning the road, but rather focused on adding passing lanes along the route.
