City Gets Traffic Fine Revenue

The Campbell government is again forwarding traffic fine revenue to BC municipal governments and Fort St. John will be the beneficiary of $312,547.

The program was expanded back in 2004 and since then, local governments have received 100 percent of the revenue. This year it amounts to more than 63 million dollars and the total for the past six years is now up to 273 million.

The program is designed to assist municipalities, which directly pay police enforcement costs and the grants come from ticket fines and court-imposed fines, on violation tickets.

Elsewhere across the Northeast region, Dawson Creek got just over $217,000 and Mackenzie received just over $65,000.
