Fort St. John gets special recognition at WinterLights Celebration

The City of Fort St. John has received a 5-star rating and special recognition from the 2008-2009 WinterLights Celebrations program.

The community participated in the Winners Circle category after winning in previous years.  Special recognition went to the communities theme called "Dreaming of a Green Christmas".  According to the WinterLights group the City is an evironmentally-sensitive community and addresses, on a year round basis, ways to create refined environmental awareness and implementation programs.

With the WinterLights Celebration the City was able to engage several partners to focus efforts on energy efficiency, lower cost and innovative use of seasonal lighting, chipping of Christmas trees and the making of natural material wreaths.

The community of Chetwynd also won 5 stars, but the category for communities with a population between 1 and 10,000 people.  The community also got special recognition for the Public Library Festival of Trees Gala.
