Fort Hotel Gone & New Council
The majority of what was once a landmark structure in Fort St. John but, what had become its most embarrassing eye soar, has been demolished.
The Old Fort Hotel at the corner of 100th avenue and 100th street went down yesterday, taking with it many memories.
Over the next few days, the rubble is expected to be cleared away, although one part of the hotel structure still stands.
The demolition was a long-standing objective of Mayor Jim Eglinski, and ironically it was completed on the final full day of his mayoralty term.
This afternoon he will be honoured for his service to the city before the swearing-in ceremonies for the newly elected mayor and council, which will include five incumbents beginning their second terms.
That gives the group a combined experience of slightly less than 15 years but mayor-elect, Bruce Lantz, is confident it is ready to deal with the governing challenges which lie ahead.
