Natural Gas Rate Reduction Coming to FSJ Next Month

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Fort St. John and Dawson Creek residents will finally be in for some gas relief next month.

Pacific Northern Gas has applied to the BC Utilities commission to approve a rate reduction of $1.11 per gigajoule, effective October 1st. For the average customer, the rate reduction will result in an annual savings of approximately $133.00 per year.

Customers will be guaranteed the new rate until January, when the company can again apply to the BCUC for a rate increase or decrease.

Craig Donohue, Director of Regulatory Affairs for PNG, says despite the fact that natural gas used locally is also sourced from this area, there’s no guarantee that increased gas development in Northeastern BC will mean lower natural gas prices here.

The announcement comes on the heels of Terasen Gas’ successful application for a rate reduction of $1.86 per gigajoule.
