FSJ's Joseph Laboucan now Charged with another Murder

A Fort St. John man already serving a life sentence for his part in the 2005 rape and murder of an Edmonton teen has now been charged with second-degree murder in the death of a prostitute.

Joseph Laboucan, 23, who is currently serving a life sentence at the federal penitentiary in Prince Albert, Sask., is charged in the death of 33-year-old Ellie May Meyer, whose body was discovered in May 2005 by a farmer tilling a field just east of Edmonton.

Laboucan, originally from Fort St. John, B.C., is being returned to Alberta to face the murder charge and is scheduled to appear in Strathcona County provincial court Monday.

Police are releasing few details, but say they spent more than three years investigating the case before charges were laid this week.

Laboucan was among several people convicted in the slaying of 13-year Nina Courtepatte, who was sexually assaulted and beaten to death in April 2005 on a darkened golf course outside of Edmonton.
