Northern Lights College is looking for homestay hosts for international students.
In September, NLC is expecting 24 new students from Austria, China, Colombia, Japan, Korea and Macau. Host are need to provide a home away from home for these students.
Homestay has been offered to students around the world for many years and has become a preferred housing option for international students studying English. Post-secondary institutions in British Columbia have been leaders in developing a reputable Homestay program in Canada.
The Fort St. John community also benefits from the presence of international students. They bring a multicultural perspective to the community, especially when they volunteer in elementary schools where they talk about their culture and language.
Homestay hosts must be located in Fort St. John, and provide a furnished bedroom with linens and towels, three meals a day, and a friendly environment. Hosts receive $600 a month to help with the expenses of having a student in their home.
