The Windfall Creek Fire near Tumbler Ridge has died down to the point where crews have been sent home. Cooler temperatures and precipitation have slowed fire activity in the area.
In the past week crews have responded to five fires. Three were caused by lightning and two by human activity. All fires were less than one hectare in size, and crews were able to quickly extinguish them.
All unit crews have been demobilized from the Windfall Creek fire and the Kalder Lake fire. Both fires are in patrol stage and will be monitored on a regular basis by local crews.
All out of fire centre crews have been released to their home bases. The fire danger rating for most of the Prince George Fire Centre ranges from low to moderate with some areas of high in the Fort St. John and Chetwynd areas.
The current forecast calls for possible thundershowers today, followed by a couple days of sun.
It only takes a few days of warm weather for the forests to dry out, therefore the Prince George Fire Centre urges the public to use caution when lighting campfires. Never leave your campfire unattended and always make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving the area.
