BC Forest Fires

There are only two known active forest fires of more than ten hectares currently burning in BC.

Both are in the north and the smallest one, covering about 18hectares, was first reported yesterday, northeast of Rose Prairie, nearthe Alberta border.

The Prince George Fire Center says it is now under “expanded attack.”

Meantime, a much larger fire has drawn what the fire center calls a “modified response”.

It is west of Fort Nelson, was first reported June 2nd and, now covers about 53 hundred hectares.

So far this fire season there have eleven wildfires of ten hectares or more reported, in the Prince George Fire Center.

It covers an area from Prince George, north to the Yukon border and,about 50 percent of the distance, from the Alberta border to the westcoast.
