Traffic Fine Revenue

The Province is returning more than 61 million dollars this year, in traffic fine revenue to local governments.

More than half a million is coming, to the two major centers in the Peace Region.

Fort St John gets 328 thousand 421 and, Dawson Creek 209 thousand 180 dollars.

The funding is to help municipal governments enhance, their policing and community based public safety programs.

The program was expanded by the Campbell government in 2004, to give local governments 100 percent of the traffic fine revenue.

The grants come from ticket fines and, court-imposed fines on violation tickets.

The amount of money each municipality receives is based, on its contribution to total municipal policing costs.
