Canfor Corporation has confirmed operations at it’s sawmill in Mackenzie will cease tomorrow.
The company says the indefinite closure is an effort to minimizeoperating losses, during the current prolonged period of poor lumbermarkets and production curtailments.
About 200 employees will be impacted by the decision, a majority of which will be indefinitely laid off.
However, the planer will operate for about two weeks, following the closure, to process existing rough inventory.
At current operating rates, the mill produces 176 million board feet of lumber on an annualized basis.
