Alberta oilpatch worker death heading to court

He sustained a serious head injury at a worksite approximately 30 kilometres northwest of Grande Prairie, and died a day later. He was struck in the head by rotating equipment on a drilling rig, but the oilfield services company wasn’t charged until November of 2012.

According to Alberta Occupational Health and Safety, in cases where workplace safety is in question, it’s not unusual for 24 months to elapse before pressing charges. The newspaper report quotes Lisa Glover, an OHS public affairs officer, as saying that technically under legislation from the date of the incident the agency has two years less a day to lay charges.
