Fire Centre explains smokey exterior

Authorities are attributing the smoke within Fort St. John to a few neighbouring provinces and communities. According to Jillian Chimko, Information Officer for the Prince George Fire Centre, the change in wind patterns has begun to blow smoke from the Northwest Territories, Fort Nelson as well as Alberta, which has resulted in the smokey fog covering Fort St. John.

The Fire Centre has also confirmed two fires in Fort Nelson, one in the Pesh area, which as of Monday morning, is 4,256 hectares in size. The other, located near Kotcho Lake, is registered as 1,700 hectares in size.

Both are still being classified as modified response fires, and are being constantly monitored.

The Prince George Fire Centre also confirmed a few small fires which developed over the weekend down south, but say there is no need for concern.
