CHETWYND, B.C. — A BC Hydro worker sustained serious injuries in an electrical contact incident at Chetwynd Substation around 10 a.m. on Monday morning.
B.C. Hydro’s Mike Kellett, community relations manager for Northern B.C., is unable to confirm at this time whether the worker was a contractor or a BC Hydro employee.
“WorkSafe has been notified, and they will be conducting an investigation,” said Kellett.
Kellett says because there is an investigation underway, he cannot confirm if the incident resulted in a power outage in Chetwynd.
Coincidentally, there was a power outage in Chetwynd on Monday morning at 10:33 a.m. Power was restored at 3:30 p.m.
“I don’t want to speculate about what happened when, that type of thing will be part of the investigation,” Kellett said.
“I know this person was severely injured, and required hospitalization immediately.”
Kellett says to his understanding, the worker was flown to the hospital in Prince George.
“BC Hydro is committed to proividing any support we can, as safety is our number one priority,” said Kellett.
Kellett noted BC Hydro will conduct its own investigation after WorkSafe’s investigation is completed.
