TAYLOR, B.C. — The first three readings of two bylaws regarding backyard hens and pets in the District of Taylor were deferred to August.

The backyard hens and bees bylaw, along with the updated responsible pet ownership bylaw, were initially scheduled to be read at a council meeting on July 24th.

The District of Taylor’s mayor and council received a letter from the BC SPCA with some additional suggestions and recommendations for the draft bylaws. The readings were deferred because staff needed more time to adjust the bylaws after receiving the letter on the morning of the council meeting.

The backyard hens and bees bylaw details the rules of keeping hens and bees within the municipality, including obtaining the required permits.

The responsible pet ownership bylaw includes all the laws and fines related to pet ownership within the District of Taylor.

Kristine Doerksen with the District of Taylor said deferring the readings will allow staff to review the letter and adjust the bylaws.

The District of Taylor encourages residents with questions or concerns to attend the next council meeting on August 14th at 5 p.m.
