FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Health Canada has issued a recall on Presidents Choice brand Canadian Cheddar Cheese for possible microbial contamination.

According to Health Canada, the cheese was sold nationwide and may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.

Health Canada said the cheese contaminated with listeria may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness.

“Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.”

Health Canada warns that recalled products should not be consumed, served, or sold. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location they were purchased at.

Residents who believe they have gotten sick from eating a recalled product should contact their healthcare provider.
