VANCOUVER — Emergency crews are on scene in Vancouver where a rooftop parking lot has collapsed into office space below.

Asst. Chief Dan Moberg of Vancouver Fire Rescue says it’s unclear if anyone was injured and crews are working to account for everyone in the building.

He says construction involving drilling on a section of the parking lot was underway when it collapsed.

Moberg says crews are waiting on structural engineers to assess the damage before they can start removing debris from the collapsed area, which measures about nine by 12 metres.

The incident has closed Lougheed Highway between Rupert Street and Boundary Road, a major route for commuter traffic.

Moberg says about 30 firefighters are on scene alongside police.
