FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Scoop Clothing, located on 100th avenue, recently held a Mother’s Day Drive for the Woman’s Resource Society, collecting over 150 bottles of much-needed shampoo, conditioner and soaps.

Store manager Whitney Armstrong says they typically have a gift card giveaway for Mother’s Day, but this year wanted to do something a little different.

“We wanted to do something for others who don’t always get the opportunity to get the help that they need,” said Armstrong.

Before beginning the drive, the store reached out to the Women’s Resource Society and asked them what they needed. The society said the most requested items were for personal hygiene.

“If you came in and you brought a donation of those items to scoop, we gave people a $20 gift card as a thank you.”

Armstrong says it’s always awesome to see the community come together for a good cause.

“Our community is always stepping up when we ask them to help someone else in our community,” she said.

“That’s my favourite part about working for a small business, is being able to do things for the community. Because sometimes when you work for the big corporations and franchises, it’s not community-driven, they do stuff for big foundations,” she explained.

Armstrong says it was “an exciting adventure to bring it all there. It was very heavy, but it was good.”

She adds that Scoop is still planning on doing their denim drive in July, which they do every year for the Women’s Resource Society.
