FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The City of Fort St. John Fire Department has donated ten sets of used gear to Firefighter Aid Ukraine.
WorkSafe BC and National Fire Protection Association rules say that gear older than ten years is no longer certifiable in B.C., but the gear is still in good shape and useable.
Before the invasion of Ukraine, used gear from the local fire department would be donated to Firefighters Without Borders for use in Central and South America.
The Firefighter Aid Ukraine organization is based out of Edmonton, Alberta and was founded in 2014 to assist the State of Emergency Services and volunteer brigades in Ukraine.
Since Russia’s recent invasion of the country, the demand for aid has dramatically increased.
