FORT ST. JOHN B.C. – The Northern Vision Care Youth Athlete of the Month contest is here. Nominations have been collected, and April’s winner is Riley Crompton.
If your athlete didn’t win this month, keep nominating! The votes carry over, so keep submitting your picks for the Northern Vision Care Youth Athlete of the Month!
At 11 years old, Riley is all about sports, whether it’s basketball, badminton or dirt biking, however, hockey has a special place in the CM Finch student’s heart.
“Hockey is something he will play as long as he has the opportunity,” said Riley’s dad, Matt.
At one point this year, Riley was playing in the North East Recreational Hockey League for the Fort St. John Bartek Wireline, and practicing with the Flyers B team.
Even outside of league play and school, Riley’s life is all about sports and hanging out with his buddies.
“Anything that he can do to be with other kids and play and have fun, he’s in for,” said Matt.
The goalie doesn’t have to go too far away from home to practice as his dad has built a rink in their backyard for Riley and his siblings. They also have a basketball net in their driveway.
“Anything to keep them off the iPad.”
With the hockey season finished, Riley will be dirt biking in the summer and preparing to try out for the Fort St. John Flyers in September.
His dad is also looking at putting him in a hockey camp in Terrace when he visits his grandparents this summer.
Congratulations to Riley Crompton for being named the Northern Vision Care Youth Athlete of the Month for April.
