FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – BC Hydro says it has awarded the remaining four contracts for the balance of plant work at Site C.

The contracts are required to complete the construction of stations, spillways and other related facilities, said the utility on Thursday. Now, the procurement process for all balance of plant contracts is complete.

Three of the four contracts were awarded to F&M Installations based in Nanaimo, and the final one was awarded to Aecon-Flatiron-Dragados-EBC Partnership (AFDE) based at Site C.

F&M Installations is an industrial contractor specializing in the construction of generation, transmission and distribution projects. The company has worked for BC Hydro before, including at Site C.

AFDE Partnership is a group of four construction companies. Aecon, who was initially based in Quebec. Flatiron, with offices in Canada and their corporate headquarters in Colorado. Dragados, with offices in Richmond, Montreal and Toronto. EBC, with offices across Canada and their head office in L’Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec.

Both contractors have said they are committed to creating Indigenous and apprentice employment and training opportunities.

BC Hydro says they are committed to following rigorous standards for all of its procurements and that these contracts were posted to BC Bid and awarded based on a comprehensive evaluation and due diligence process.
