FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The North Peace Grizzlies seniors girls went undefeated in an indoor rugby exhibition tournament in Grande Prairie on Friday.
Both seniors boys and girls teams took part in the tournament that started with sevens flag rugby and gradually added contact games.
The tournament’s purpose was to safely ease athletes into contact rugby for the upcoming season, said NPSS Athletics Director Jaclyn McNicol.
The senior girls were undefeated in both flag and contact games.
“The girls are a great group and have been training hard the past couple of months. It was exciting to watch them put their skills into action and gain confidence as the day progressed. Looking forward to the start of the official season,” said coach Sean Dignan
The senior boys went 2-2 after competing against three other teams in both flag and contact play.
League play is tentatively set to begin April 21st, where the Grizzlies will face their Alberta counterparts in Sexsmith and Grande Prairie.
