DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – Dawson Creek RCMP says a collision that occurred on Friday resulted in a fatality.
The detachment says that on April 1st, 2022, at 3:47 p.m., they received multiple reports of a severe accident involving two vehicles at the roundabout located at the intersection of Alaska Avenue and 8th Street in Dawson Creek.
Police, firefighters and paramedics attended the scene and located a taxi (a Ford Escape) and a Ford F150 pickup truck that were both critically damaged, indicating a high-speed impact.
Mounties interviewed multiple witnesses and reviewed video surveillance of the area leading up to the accident, which showed a 2022 black Ford F150XLT pickup was driving westbound on Highway 49 toward the roundabout at a high rate of speed.
Police believe the F150 lost control as it struck a lamppost and was viewed to be driving on the railway tracks for a period of time. The F150 cut across the roundabout and impacted the driver’s side of the taxi travelling southbound and about to enter the roundabout.
The 60-year-old male driver of the taxi was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision, while the 44-year-old female passenger of the taxi received serious non-life-threatening injuries.
The 54-year-old female driver of the Ford F150 pickup was also transported to the local hospital with serious injuries.
