FORT NELSON B.C. – Buddy Streeper set a new track record on the final day of the 2022 Open North American championships capturing his eighth title.

Streeper’s time was just under the four-hour mark for the third day of dog sled racing.

Before Sunday’s start time, his time was only 80 seconds ahead of second-place racer Erick LaForce of Lanoraie, Quebec.

Streeper later increased his lead and, in the process, established a new track record of 90 minutes and 53.5 seconds, surpassing the old mark of 92 minutes and 10 seconds, his previous best on the ONAC circuit.

For Streeper, this is his second championship win this season after winning the Fur Rendezvous in Anchorage in late February.

If the Fort Nelson-born musher wins the March 26th and 27th Race of Champions in Tok, Alaska, he will become a triple crown champion in short-track dog sled racing.
