FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Fort St. John Child Development Centre raised $71,384 through their talent show and fundraising initiatives facilitated by numerous local businesses.
Crystal Kalas with the centre says this amount is well over the $61,000 raised last year.
“We were quite happy to tally everything up and realize that we had made that much,” Kalas said.
Kalas said the amount raised wouldn’t have been possible without the community’s support.
“It’s really heartwarming to know that people support the centre and continue to do so when we know that things are hard in that community. It’s really appreciated,” Kalas said.
“From our families and the staff here at the centre, thank you so much for donating to the center and supporting our fundraising efforts.”
Funds raised from this year’s talent show will go towards a new heating and cooling system in the centre, sound panels for therapy rooms and psychological assessment kits.
Top donors to the centre included Energetic Services, who contributed $15,000, Mustang Rentals at $7,500 and a resident who donated $5,000.
The Canadian Grind also raised $4,270.20 through their Donut Days initiative.
