HUDSON’S HOPE, B.C. – Worksafe BC has issued a $57,318.16 fine to Cantex-Okanagan Construction, which operates a gravel crushing plant in Hudson’s Hope, for “high-risk violations.”
While the plant was undergoing maintenance work, Inspectors found guarding in areas of the plant was either ineffective or non-existent, according to the agency on Tuesday.
WorkSafe says it also observed workers near equipment that wasn’t locked out prior to the maintenance work.
Worksafe says the company failed to “ensure machinery and equipment were fitted with adequate safeguards to prevent workers from accessing hazardous points of operation.”
The company also didn’t have effective mechanical exhaust systems equipped to jaw and cone crushers, WorkSafe said.
The fine was issued on February 8th.
