FORT ST JOHN B.C. -The local speed skating club is putting a call out to anyone in the community looking to try their hand at the sport this weekend.

With the 2022 Beijing Olympics in the rearview, the club is giving residents a chance to try what they saw on tv for free.

This Saturday at the Pomeroy Sports Centre, the Fort St. John Elks Speed Skating Club are having a “try it” session.

The community will have access to knowledge from current speed skaters and coaches on one of four-speed skating ovals in North America.

The oval welcomed the country’s top national and development team skaters back in 2018 prior to the Olympics in Pyeongchang and in 2020 to prepare for potential international competitions in 2021.

Anyone looking to participate in the free skate is asked to bring their skates and a helmet. Current public health guidelines are to be followed.
