FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Local Indigenous tattoo artist, Barbara Reno, has made it into the top 10 and progressed to the next round of voting for the Inked Magazine Covergirl competition.

Reno currently sits in 10th place and says she’s surprised to have made it this far.

“Next, it goes to the top five. I can’t believe I made it to the top 10 out of all of these people. There were so many people that were cut the first time.  I was surprised that I made it then,” Reno said.

She says she’s honoured to make it to the next round and hopes to continue progressing through the competition to represent the region.

“To be able to represent Northeast B.C., that’s huge. Especially being in Canada, that puts us on the map,” Reno said.

She added that she’s struggled with her own self-image and hopes to be a role model to those experiencing the same issues.

“It took me 35 years just to be able to get used to my own body and accept myself. There are a lot of women I know that are extremely beautiful, and they pick themselves apart too,” Reno said.

Voting for the top  five ends on Thursday, February 17th at 8 p.m. MST
