FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Fort St John Fire Department received a call for a structure fire on 269 Road Wednesday night at approximately 9:06 p.m.
Acting Fire Chief Robert Norton says the department responded with three apparatus and sixteen firefighters and were supported by the Charlie Lake Fire Department with one water tender.
Upon arrival, fire crews encountered a fully involved structure fire and dealt with additional challenges due to weather conditions.
“We were met with some pretty challenging winds last night, which really impacted our ability to protect some exposure,” Norton said.
“So we had to work really hard to keep the fire from spreading from the initial structure to the other exposures.”
Crews were on scene for approximately three hours.
Norton says the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
