FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Peace River Regional District has lifted the remainder of evacuation orders and alerts for the Old Fort.
The final order was rescinded on Thursday for properties at 7605 Old Fort Road, 9909 240 Road, and 9911 240 Road, as well as portions of 6975 Old Fort Road, 7583 Old Fort Road, and 9820 River Drive.
“No evacuation orders or alerts remain as a result of the Old Fort Landslide,” said the PRRD.
Approximately 150 people live in the Old Fort, and saw their only access to the community cut off in 2018 and 2020 due to landslides.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure released a 86 page report on December 3rd suggesting the existing Old Fort road alignment is the best option for access to the community.
The ministry says further geotechnical investigations will take place to understand geohazards and identify potential mitigative work.
