FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Dawson Creek Secondary School will be placed into a functional closure on Monday, February 7th due to forty per cent of staff being absent due to illness.

School District 59 says the closure will extend to Friday, February 11th and advise parents that remote learning will occur during that week.

The District will do a re-assessment of staff illness levels on February 11th and anticipates returning to face-to-face learning on Monday, February 14th.

In a release, the District said that school staff and teachers will be reaching out to students and families on Monday, February 7th to initiate their Continuity of Learning Plans.

A functional closure of a school is a temporary closure determined by a school district due to a lack of staff to provide the required level of teaching, supervision, support, and/or custodial to ensure the health and safety of students. This is due to a high number of staff away due to illness who are required for a school to function, and the inability to temporarily replace them
