PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – The Peace River Regional District will commit $150,000 over the next three years to the Kordyban Lodge in support of residents needing accommodation while undergoing cancer treatment in Prince George.
The lodge is operated by the Canadian Cancer Society, and PRRD funding will support its Peace of Mind campaign, which helps subsidize the cost of lodging for patients being treated at the University Hospital of Northern BC and BC Cancer Centre for the North.
In 2021, more than 462 Northern B.C. residents stayed at the lodge, including 121 residents coming from the Peace region.
“It’s heavily used by people in this area and I really think we need to keep it supported,” said Electoral Director Dan Rose.
Directors voted in favour of a staff recommendation at their Jan. 27 committee of the whole meeting, with funds coming from health-related grants-in-aid.
The subsidy will also allow for the provision of meals and snacks, as well as access to parking and amenities offered at the lodge.
Since 2011, the PRRD has contributed $213,000 to the lodge.
