UPDATE: Drive BC says the Highway between Barrette Rd and 259 Rd has reopened.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – A two-vehicle collision on Highway 97 at 259 Road has sent both drivers to the hospital with serious injuries.

The Fort St. John RCMP reports that on Wednesday morning at approximately 8:20 am, RCMP, Fire and EHS were notified of a multi-vehicle collision south of Fort St John, on the Alaska Highway at 259 Road.

Once on scene, emergency crews located two pickup trucks involved in a head-on collision. The westbound vehicle had two occupants, and the eastbound vehicle had only the driver.

Emergency crews extracted both drivers, both with serious injuries. The passenger had minor injuries. EHS transported all three occupants to the hospital for emergency care.

The RCMP Traffic Reconstruction Unit remains on scene, and the highway remains closed.

Police ask that drivers follow the direction of flaggers in the area for a detour route.

The Fort St John RCMP continues to investigate and are asking anyone who may have additional information or dash cam video related to this matter to contact police by calling the detachment at 250-787-8100.
