FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – For residents who may be having trouble sorting out booster dose appointments in Fort St. John, Northern Health hopes to clear the air.

There have been reports of residents struggling to find a participating clinic in Fort St. John, but that’s because the clinics in town are available as drop-in only.

Northern Health spokesperson Eryn Collins says the Get Vaccinated portal on the British Columbia government website does not include drop-in clinics.

“Fort St. John’s COVID-19 vaccine clinics are on a drop-in basis, which of course means no appointment is necessary. On our website, social media and in local advertising, we have been and continue to encourage Northern BC residents to check our website for specific information on not only when and where local clinics are taking place, but also how they’re structured,” said Collins. “Because drop-in clinics don’t have structured appointments, they don’t appear as options in the provincial appointment-booking system.”

There are participating pharmacies that will offer scheduled appointments, says Collins.

“B.C. pharmacies are taking an expanded role in providing COVID-19 vaccines, and one, if not more pharmacies in Fort St. John are offering appointments. These are accessed through the provincial Get Vaccinated system.”

Collins reminds residents not to contact pharmacies directly.

“Anyone who is eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, including those who are receiving invitations to book, can simply go to a drop-in clinic. As you’ll see on the website, those eligible for a booster dose will have received an invitation that they can use as proof of eligibility at the drop-in clinic.”

The schedule for the drop-in vaccine clinic in Fort St. John is as follows:

• December 17th (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
• December 18th (2 p.m. to 6 p.m.)
• December 21th (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
• January 4th, 6th, 7th, 10th, 11th, 13th, 14th, 17th, 18th, 20th, 24th, 25th, 27th, 28th, 31st (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
• January 5th, 12th, 19th, 26th (12 p.m. to 8 p.m.)

This is a drop-in clinic. No appointment is required. Registration is recommended before coming to the Health Unit. The clinic is open to all ages, including 5-11 year olds.
