CHETWYND, B.C. – The District of Chetwynd is mourning the loss of another recipient of the Freedom of the Municipality.

In a post on Facebook Monday, the District announced the passing of Bob Nicholson and that the flags at the Municipal Office would be lowered to half-mast in his honour.

“District of Chetwynd Mayor, Council and Staff extend our deepest condolences to Bob Nicholson’s family and friends,” reads the post from the District of Chetwynd.

The Nicholson family moved to Chetwynd in 1934, living on the property where the CN Rail station now sits.

Nicholson served on the District of Chetwynd Council from 1987 to 2014.

“Mr. Nicholson’s dedication was evident with his service to the community as a Councillor and a volunteer on many local committees.”

The District renamed 48th Street to Nicholson Road in 2005, and in 2015, Nicholson was awarded the Freedom of the Municipality in recognition of his family and their contribution to the community, as well as his public service.

On December 13th, the District announced the passing of another Freedom of the Municipality recipient, Yvonne Elden.
