FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for the Peace region.

A cold wind chill is expected to move into northeastern BC Wednesday evening moving into Thursday morning.

Overnight temperatures are expected to reach near minus 29 combined with northwest winds near 30 km/h, resulting in wind chill values exceeding minus 40.

Environment Canada recommends covering up as frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with the wind chill.

It’s also recommended residents keep emergency supplies in their vehicles, such as extra blankets and jumper cables.
