FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Students and staff at Alwin Holland Elementary have been feeling the holiday spirit this season with several recent community donations.
Twenty-one students and their families will receive winter clothing and Christmas hampers courtesy of the school’s neighbours, the Calvary Baptist Church, whose members brought in jackets, snow pants, toques, and gloves, along with other goods.
“We’re very grateful for their support. They’re just across the road from us, and were kind enough to bring lots of items that we can always use in the winter,” says Principal Jerelyn Orcutt. “They’re really looking out for our community.”
The Pomeroy Hotel also donated winter clothing, gifts, and cash to support the school hampers, and is also supporting a school-wide lunch this week.
“We’re just amazed with the support we’ve been getting from our community,” said Orcutt.
Meanwhile, Alwin Holland leadership students were in the Christmas spirit themselves, raising $525 for the Salvation Army by selling candy cane grams.
