FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Home Hardware says that they’ve been able to give $60,000 back to the community in 2021.

Team members from SJA Promo, Home Hardware, AFDE group, and the Fort St. John Firefighters Charitable Society (FSJFCS) gathered at Home Hardware for a cheque presentation Tuesday morning for the funds raised by the advent calendars.

The store was able to help raise $8,050 for the FSJFCS by selling the calendars, which will be used to help local families cover the cost of medical travel and to support burn victims. The calendars were designed by Carolina Galdamez of Atonita Draws, a local graphic designer.

Home Hardware has also held other fundraisers throughout the year, such as the orange shirt fundraiser for the FSJ Friendship Society.

Shelley Gallinger, retail manager at Home Hardware, says if it weren’t for the community’s generosity, it wouldn’t have been possible.

“Thanks, Fort St. John, for all they do is they make this possible,” Gallinger said.

Those who missed out on getting a calendar this year needn’t fret. L.J. Lawson from SJA Promos says the calendars may become an annual fundraiser.

“Even before these were on the shelves, we thought, this would be a great annual kind of thing, whether it’s different charities or different themes for the front,” Lawson said.

“Thank you to everyone who bought an advent calendar, and look forward to us conspiring again to find a neat charitable fundraiser to go with,” Lawson continued.

Those looking to support the FSJFCS further can purchase beer, wine, or whiskey glasses with the Society’s logo on them at Home Hardware. All funds will be donated to the Society.
