DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – A new maternity care clinic has opened in Dawson Creek, supporting residents in the South Peace and surrounding areas.
Chickadee Maternity Collaborative Clinic opened its doors on Monday and features a team of physicians, midwives, primary care nurses, and allied health professionals
The clinic aims to provide person-centred, culturally safe care throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum period.
The team is made up of four physicians, one registered midwife, two registered nurses, and one nurse practitioner.
Residents can receive in-clinic care and virtual care through Medeo with primary providers in Chetwynd, Tumbler Ridge, and Saulteau.
The collaborative care aspect of Chickadee means that multiple health care providers from various backgrounds work together to support every patient, family, and caregiver delivering person-centred care.
Chickadee came about through the South Peace Physicians working with partners including First Nations Health Authority, Northern Health Authority, and the Ministry of Health to develop the sustainable maternity model that Chickadee follows as it supports residents in the South Peace and its surrounding areas.
“At Chickadee we respect pregnancy as a state of health, and promote decision making as a shared responsibility between you and your care providers. We practice informed choice, and respect you as the primary decision maker. Our care providers embrace a holistic approach to care and walk alongside you on your journey,” says the clinic’s mission statement.
The clinic hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday, closed for lunch from noon to 1 p.m.
