POUCE COUPE, B.C. – Ovintiv Canada says there were no injuries or property damage after a gas leak occurred near Riverside Road in Pouce Coupe.
The release occurred at approximately 2:10 p.m. on Friday.
“The well site release consisted of natural gas and natural gas liquids and was contained shortly after the event occurred,” Ovintiv says.
The company says they’re actively working to investigate the cause of the incident, and there is no ongoing risk to the public or the environment.
“We will not resume service on the well until the investigation is complete, and the Oil and Gas Commission is satisfied the well can be returned to service,” says Ovintiv.
“Our current priorities remain public and environmental safety along with continued management of the situation. We are continuing to work closely with all emergency response and regulatory officials regarding the incident.”
This is the second leak that has occurred from either a wellhead or pipeline owned by Ovintiv near Pouce Coupe this year. The first was a pipeline leak which resulted in a release and fire on January 28th.
