FORT ST. JOHN, B.C – Peace River North MLA Dan Davies has endorsed Ellis Ross as the next leader of the BC Liberal Party.

“I’ve heard Ellis speak a lot of times. There’s not a person that is more passionate about the Province of British Columbia, more passionate about its people, and more passionate, I think most importantly, about the future of British Columbia,” said MLA Dan Davies.

Davies announced the endorsement at a gathering at Beard’s Brewing on Friday night, which was also live-streamed on Facebook.

“I think he reflects what we all need, and that’s a bright future. A bright future for me, my kids, my grandkids to come. He just speaks to the future. We need an economy that’s going to work for all of us,” Davies said. “That economy then supplies health services, good education, and the social supports to support people in need.”

Davies resigned from the BC Liberal Party executive on Monday in order to give Ross his endorsement.

“Anyone on the executive must remain neutral. I felt compelled to help Ellis in his leadership race,” Davies said.

Ellis says Davies’ endorsement to be the next leader of the BC Liberals is very humbling.

“It means a lot to be on a committee and to actually affect change. For Dan to actually resign to do this, it’s just inspiring,” said Ross.

“I know what it means to actually resign from a committee to do something else that you truly believe in. I can’t say how much I appreciate that.”

Ross is currently serving as the MLA for the Skeena electoral district and has been representing the area since being elected in 2017.

He was born and raised in Kitimaat Villiage, BC and was elected to Haisla Nation Council in 2003. He then became Chief Councillor in 2011.

Ross resigned from Council in 2017 and was elected MLA the same year. He was re-elected in October 2020.
