PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE, MB – Team BC dropped the final round-robin game to Team Alberta by a score of 2-1 on Thursday afternoon.
Brooke Disher got her 5th point of the tournament, an assist, on Team BC’s lone goal of the game by Vienna Rubin.
Both teams got on the board early in the first period, followed by a scoreless second frame.
With first place in the round-robin on the line and a semi-final matchup with the fourth seed on Friday, both teams had everything to play for in the third period.
The back-and-forth action finally tipped in favour of Team Alberta when Hayley Trudeau scored a power-play goal with just under four minutes to go in the game.
Team BC was unable to solve goaltender Ridleigh Hansen, who stopped the same 23 shots as Team BC’s Hailey Macleod.
Team Alberta gained a slight edge throughout the game with five power-play opportunities to Team BC’s one chance.
With the loss, Team BC finishes with one regulation win, one overtime win and one loss, good enough for second place.
Scoring nine goals in three games, Team BC had a goal differential of +3 while Alberta led the way with +9.
The semi-final matchups will be decided when Team Saskatchewan and Team Manitoba finish the afternoon game. Team Alberta will face the fourth seed in the early game on Friday, and Team BC will face the third seed in the late game.
The gold medal game and the bronze medal game will be played on Saturday, November 6th at Stride Place in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba.
