FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Convicted Fort St. John fentanyl dealer Dana Nazarek has been on the run for four months now after cutting his ankle monitor and skipping a jury verdict on his latest drug trafficking charges.
The Public Prosecution Service of Canada says capturing the fugitive is a matter in the hands of the police. Surrey RCMP confirmed their hands are empty, with Nazarek is still at large and no new updates to report.
Nazarek, 50, cut his ankle monitor and went on the run just before a BC Supreme Court appearance in Vancouver on June 29. The next day, a jury found him guilty on six counts of trafficking and four counts of illegal weapons possession after police raided his home in Fort St. John in 2018.
Nazarek pleaded not guilty to the drug charges and was released on strict bail conditions to a halfway house in Surrey in March, including a requirement to wear the ankle bracelet. A Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued after Nazarek skipped court, and he remains wanted on new charges of mischief, failing to appear, and breaching release orders.
During the raid on Nazarek’s home in 2018, RCMP seized 800 fentanyl tablets as well as carfentanil, cocaine, meth, heroin, five loaded firearms, and $38,000 in cash.
Nazarek was previously convicted and sentenced to 40 months in prison after police raided his home and seized more than 2,000 fentanyl pills disguised as Oxycontin in December 2013.
