VICTORIA, B.C. – The Northern Health Region added 104 cases on Friday, moving the active case count to 817.

There are 82 people in hospital, 24 of whom are in critical care.

There were two COVID-19 deaths on Friday, moving the regional total to 212.

Out of 15,315 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, 14,189 have recovered.

There were 1,974 vaccine doses given in the region on Friday, bringing the total dose count to 381,036. Of those, 177,263 are second doses and 4,442 are considered “other” doses.

B.C. added 584 cases on Friday, moving the active case count to 4,982.

There are 436 people in hospital, 156 of whom are in critical care.

There were nine COVID-19 deaths on Friday, moving the provincial total to 2,156.

Of the 204,914 cases since last March, 197,396 have since recovered.

Another 12,779 vaccine doses were administered across the province on Friday, moving the total dose count to 8,199,432. Of those, 3,935,945 are second doses and 101,131 are “other” doses.

As of Friday, 89.8 per cent of eligible residents over 12 have a single dose, and 85 per cent have received both doses of a Health Canada approved vaccine.

Dr. Bonnie Henry announced the extension of the mask mandate that requires masks to be worn in all public indoor spaces in the province.

The previous order would have expired on October 31st, but it has been extended to continue slowing the transmission of COVID-19.

“The requirement to wear masks in indoor public spaces is being extended during this time of higher transmission of COVID-19 in communities,” said Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.’s provincial health officer. “This important layer of protection will help make all of us safer, along with practising hand hygiene regularly, staying away if sick and, most importantly, getting fully vaccinated.”
