HUDSON’S HOPE, B.C. – BC Hydro says the first segment of the Highway 29 realignment is now opened at Farrell Creek East.
The Site C Project sent out a tweet announcing the milestone on Monday.
Construction on the segment began in 2020 and is expected to be completed next spring as additional work is required, said BC Hydro.
The segment was moved away from the top of the bank to an area that will not be impacted by the new Site C reservoir.
The highway is being realigned for when the reservoir filling begins in 2023, as this will widen the Peace River and cover parts of the highway.
Construction on the 32 kilometres of highway began in 2018 and involves redesigning and building parts of the road, including new bridges at Cache Creek, Halfway River, Lynx Creek, Dry Creek and Farrell Creek.
