UPDATE: As of 3:37 p.m., BC Hydro says a crew has arrived at the site, and the estimated return of power is 8:00 p.m.

FORT NELSON, B.C. – BC Hydro is experiencing a power outage affecting customers in Fort Nelson.

The affected area is west of Airport Drive, and BC Hydro says it is due to a downed wire.

Approximately 893 customers are affected by this outage. Power has been out since 12:43 p.m., and BC Hydro expects a crew to arrive by 1:45 p.m.

Power outages in Fort Nelson have been a regular occurrence in recent months. In August, a lengthy power outage caused $150,000 in lost food at grocery stores, according to Fort Nelson Mayor Gary Foster.

Residents are concerned that it takes crews a long time to drive up from Fort St. John, adding time to power outages and lost money to businesses.

This is a developing story.
